How to Get to Downtown Las Vegas From The Strip

If you’re planning to visit Las Vegas, you’ll probably get more than one recommendation to check out downtown while you’re here. For those who are unfamiliar with the city, you might not know where downtown is. How can you get there from the Strip? Don’t worry – we’ve got you covered!

Here are all the ways to get to Downtown Las Vegas from The Strip:

Driving Yourself to Downtown Las Vegas

If you have your car with you and you prefer to drive to Downtown Las Vegas from The Strip, the directions are pretty simple. Downtown Las Vegas sits just north of the Strip and is about a 10-minute drive, depending on traffic and where you start. The most straightforward way to go is to head north on Las Vegas Boulevard. Once you hit Carson Avenue, you’ll know you’re right in the heart of downtown.

You can also take the I-15 northbound and follow the signs for Downtown Las Vegas. From the I-15 North, take exit 42B onto 95 South, then take the very next exit 75B to Downtown LV and Casino Center Blvd. Exit 75B will take you to N Casino Center Blvd and the heart of Downtown Las Vegas. Public Transportation to Downtown Las Vegas

For those of you who don’t have a car or don’t want to drive, public transportation is another option to get to Downtown Las Vegas from the Strip. There are two bus lines, the Deuce or the SDX Express, that can pick you up from multiple locations along the Strip. The Deuce operates 24/7 while the SDX Express line runs from 9:00 am to midnight every day.

The Deuce line makes more stops along the way, so it may take a little longer to get to downtown. However, there are more locations where you can catch the bus, which can be convenient, depending on where you’re staying. The SDX Express line has fewer stops but does not run all night. You can purchase passes for either line at the vending machines at most stops, including 2-hour, 24-hour, and 3-day passes.

Las Vegas Monorail

You may have seen the Las Vegas monorail running along the Strip and are wondering if it will take you to Downtown Las Vegas. Unfortunately, it does not run all the way to the downtown area. Although, it does take you as far north as the Sahara Hotel & Casino on Las Vegas Boulevard.

Once you get to the Sahara, you can either jump in a cab or take a rideshare service to Downtown Las Vegas. The drive will only take about five minutes. Although the distance from The Sahara to downtown is just over 2 miles, you should always exercise caution if you decide to walk. Extreme summer temperatures can lead to dehydration quickly! Also, the monorail does not run all night, so keep that in mind if you plan to be out late.

Catch a Cab to Downtown Las Vegas

Taxis are easy to get from any of the major hotels or casinos on the Strip. There is usually a cab line in the main driveway of the hotel or casino where you can catch a taxi without having to worry about flagging one down. If you’re not sure where the cab line is, just ask any of the hotel staff and they’ll be able to direct you.

Although it might be a convenient way to get to Downtown Las Vegas from the Strip, it’s not always the most affordable choice. Cabs generally charge a waiting time fee during the busiest periods throughout the day. Also, if you get stuck in traffic (which can happen often on the Strip), you can run up a pretty expensive meter. If it’s a particularly busy time, you may want to consider an alternative way to get to downtown if you’re on a budget.

Rideshare Services From the Strip to Downtown Las Vegas

One of the most popular options to get to Downtown Las Vegas from the Strip is choosing a rideshare service, such as Uber or Lyft. Just as taxis have their own pickup area at casinos, rideshare drivers also have a dedicated area to pick up riders. Also, there’s an abundance of drivers at any time of day or night, so you’ll never wait long for your ride.

Ridesharing is a great choice if you happen to have multiple people in your group or want to save some money by opting for the less expensive options, such as Uber Pool. To make the process easier for you, here are some insider tips for rideshare pickups on the Strip:

  1. Rideshare pickups are never in the front entrance or valet area of hotels. They are always in the back or side entrance. Ask a hotel employee where the rideshare pickup area is if you are not sure.
  2. Do not order your ride too early. With the high amount of rideshare vehicles on the Strip, your ride will often arrive in 5 minutes or less. Make sure you’re in the pickup area and ready to go when you order your ride.
  3. Once you order your ride, confirm the rideshare app has the right hotel and pickup location. (After you order the right the GPS will select your pick up location and display it in the app). With so many pick up areas close together on the Strip, the app will often place you at the incorrect pickup spot. If your driver shows up at the wrong hotel, it could take a long time to get to the correct location.
  4. If you have a group of more than 4 people, you must order Uber XL or Lyft XL. A regular Uber or Lyft will not be able to legally fit 5 people in their vehicle. The XL rides can fit up to 6 passengers, so if you have more than 6 people you will need to order two vehicles.
